" the edge of reality ... "

alarmingly, Australia is in the tope five countries for extinctions of animal & plant species,

with 29 endemic mammal extinctions comprising 35% of the world's modern mammal extinctions

to celebrate World Animal Day (or commiserate) a collection of mammals featured as a picturestory in Gecko's 'Hills To Headlands' magazine    |   it was an opportunity to create awareness of how digital fotoArte can promote consciousness of the plight our threatened & endangered native species face

summer 2015   |   SPANGLED DRONGOS

" the sound of spring ..."

'Drongo' [ Australian slang aka ]  bloody idiot, clown, ratbag, dumb-arse, sandwich short of a picnic   |

thus the  Spangled Drongo, an endearing larrikin with dots ... love 'em !

every spring a pair of Spangled Drongos return to the same flame tree in Currumbin Valley to raise a new family

chattering birdtalk signals their arrival   |  the sight of the fork-tailed acrobat with its flame-red eye flitting amongst flame-red blossoms an annual highlight

relentless 24/7 delivery of insectivorous takeaway, in all shape, size & species by the doting parents sees offspring-with-attitude fully-fledged and on their way to begin lives of their own in just three weeks

spring 2015   |   CURRUMBIN VALLEY

" cameras have been very kind ... "

they've been an inseparable part of my life ever since I got my first Kodak Starflash for Xmas as a kid

they've been excuse for adventure & encounter in my own country

taken me to all corners of the planet on assignment for BBC Natural History, National Geographic & Discovery

put me face-to-face with polar bear, cobra, orangutan & rhino, and some pretty special human species too

they've brought to life childhood dreams once found only in Time-Life & Golden Books

mostly though photography has taught me to 'see'

it exposed the reality that natural exotica is not limited to far-off lands, but mere footsteps from my own front door

opened my eyes to discover and appreciate the natural wonder of my own world   |  been messenger & teacher to nurture a sense of place & being, content & connection

Currumbin Valley is my place of dreaming

the heart of my universe   |   and the visual inspiration that drives my mission to use visual craft to help all 'see for themselves'

to celebrate the natural bounty we've inherited   |   and to ensure it continues to inspire and give for all time to come
